Can I just say that when you change one part of your lifestyle, over time EVERYTHING starts to follow. It's almost impossible to stop it from happening! Ever since I was 14 years old I was aware of the chemicals in our everyday products, how what we put on our skin is linked to disease, etc. I even wrote a couple school papers on the topic. Ha!
I'll be honest, while there have always been certain things that I avoid and will not purchase or put on my body, there were also a few things that I wasn't letting go of or putting much thought into. One of those being batiste dry shampoo. Who feels me? Until recently, I was choosing to put the knowledge I already had about this in the back of my mind when it came to these few toxic products. The truth of the matter is, our bodies absorb around 64% of the products we put on them. So there is no questioning whether it's entering our body and bloodstream. It definitely is so It's up to us to choose what we want our bodies to absorb. I like to look at the big picture when it comes to health. Our bodies are amazing and can endure a lot but why make things harder? Over the past few months, the way I've started to look at it is if I am putting whole plant-based foods in my body every day and feeding myself the best way I know how, why make things harder on my body by allowing toxic chemicals into my body through my skin from my beauty products? This change is not a hard one, it just takes some research, reading labels, and being educated in what you're trying to avoid. My new rule is "if you cant say it don't buy it". That rule does come with some exceptions. There are some herbs, plants, and natural substances out there with crazy long or hard to pronounce names but it's all about being educated and knowing what you're looking for. Here are a few of my favorite natural products that I've been using for years. Make sure to scroll down to the end of the post for a list of my favorite brands and recommendations!
Ok, once I started using this cleanser I never went back. I've used it for over a year now and I just feel like my skin loves it so much. It takes makeup off SO well but is also a gentle cleanser for no-makeup days! Argan oil and coconut oil are two of my absolute favorites and they are both main components of this cleanser. I would highly recommend picking up a bottle of it on your next Target run or onine!
Acure Brilliantly Brightening Facial Scrub, 4 Ounces (Packaging May Vary)" target="_blank">Acure Brightening Facial Scrub
This is an amazing dupe for the Kate Somerville Exfolikate Scrub. I have loved that scrub for years but while they aren't terrible, some of the ingredients are definitely questionable. If you are looking for a simpler and more natural version of that scrub or you're just in the market for a new exfoliator, you have to try this one! I try to use it once a week and it always makes my skin feel so smooth and healthy afterward. Acure is such a great brand with amazing ethics and values. Make sure to go read more about their brand on their site!
I have tried my fair share of natural deodorants and this one definitely takes the cake. It works through hot Alabama summers if that tells you anything! I've used it for a few years now and nothing else I've tried tops it and it definitely helps that it comes in so many different scents (naturally scented by essential oils!). It allows me to sweat, which is natural and our bodies need to sweat, but it keeps the smell away! We have glands under our armpits and every time we use normal antiperspirant deodorant we are allowing 60% of that product that is FULL of nasty chemicals into our skin, our bloodstream and into those glands to prevent perspiration. Our body sweats to let out toxins so if we are clogging our sweat glands with antiperspirant we are literally giving these toxins no way out and of course, toxin build up in the body leads to disease and other major health issues. I would say this is one of the most important products to change!
Acure Organics, Moroccan, Argan Oil Treatment, All Skin Types, 1 fl oz (30 ml)" target="_blank">Acure Moroccan Argan Oil
This is a pure argan oil that I use as my day and night moisturizer. This is something I adapted a few months before getting married and again, my skin LOVED it so I stuck with it! My skin just drinks it up and even through the winter months I never have dry skin issues! Some people are so afraid of oils for the face. I was too! I actually have combination skin and using argan oil on my face has never made me feel overly oily. The best part of this moisturizer is that it's made with only 1 pure ingredient. Try it out!
Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening and Nourishing Face Oil, 1.01 Ounce" target="_blank">Korres Wild Rose Brightening Oil
This oil is awesome and smells SO good! I've been using this in combination with my argan oil at night on my neck and face. Seriously smells like a spa and has actual rose petals in it. It's infused with vitamin C and helps to brighten your skin. This amazon link actually has this oil way cheaper than it is at Sephora!
This is an awesome toothpaste if you are looking for a natural and fluoride free product. It's actually infused with cleansing and immune boosting essential oils which are great for overall oral health! It has a nice cinnamon flavor as well!
Lately, coconut oil is all I've been using to moisturize my body after baths and showers. I love the way it smells and I feel good about my skin absorbing it. The great thing about coconut oil is you can customize it with whatever essential oils you would like! At night I like to mix lavender and wild orange oil into mine. Coconut oil also makes a GREAT hair mask! I like to coat my dry hair in coconut oil (focusing on the ends) and tie it in a bun on top of my head for 30 minutes to an hour (you can go all day with it in your hair if you want) and then when I'm ready to take a shower I'll wash it all out. My hair is always easier to manage and so smooth after doing this. My current favorite brand of coconut oil is linked! I buy mine in huge tubs to save money.
DIY Blemish Roller
This blend of essential oils is amazing. It's the only thing I use on blemishes now because it works so well! To make the roller you will need an empty and clean roller bottle. Fill the bottle with 10 drops each of lavender, melaleuca, and frankincense. You will want to fill the rest of the bottle up with fractionated coconut oil for dilution. Let me know if you try this oil! If you need these oils be sure to contact me or click the "my doterra team" button above to join and get wholesale prices!
Everything listed above is vegan and formulated without harsh chemicals.
My next adventure is finding 100% chemical free and natural makeup. I will be placing an order on 100percentpure.com very soon and I'll be sure to do a review on what I purchase! Stay tuned!
I hope this post was helpful and you enjoyed it!
