Would you believe me if I told you there are different times in your cycle when you’ll be more productive, more creative, more intuitive, more “on” or more “off”, etc? Our world is programmed for the male cycle which is quite frustrating in my opinion. The male hormone cycle is pretty predictable and starts over every single day the same as the last. A woman’s cycle is MUCH different and usually lasts 28 days before it starts over. We are not the same every single day and our hormones literally look like a roller coaster throughout the entire month if we track them. We have days when we are ready to tackle our biggest goals and other days where we want to be alone and are in a better state to be detail oriented and get things done that don’t require us to be so “on”. My job(s) require me to wear many hats. Some days I’m scheduling coffee consults with brides, other days I’m filming a video, writing a blog post or working on the tedious details of a project but something I’ve always noticed is that some days are weird. Some days I stumble over my words and have a hard time articulating during meetings and other days I’m totally with it. Some days I can’t focus on the details in front of me for the life of me and other days I am able to blow through a to-do list of computer work. This would frustrate me so much because I could tell on certain days I was connecting with clients, my work, a task, etc. and other days I just wasn’t. Sound familiar? It’s all in the cycle babe!
Our cycle is so beautifully designed to help us unlock all of our potential as women! When you start to learn about this it’s actually pretty mind blowing. Unlike men, we have days or even weeks of our cycle where we can intentionally get certain things done and have a higher success rate simply due to where we are in our cycle and the energy we’re putting off. It’s kind of like a hidden super power!
So the different phases in a woman’s cycle actually reflect the seasons in a year. Picture it like a circle. You have winter, spring, summer, and fall and then you’re back to winter at the end of the 28 days.
Winter represents menstruation. The first 1-5 days of the cycle. Winter is meant for rest, to turn inward, to have alone time. I don’t know about you but ALL I want when I’m on my period is to be ALONE (with wine and ice cream please). Our body is shedding from the inside out when we menstruate. That is hard work, we lose a lot of blood, and we NEED rest. And I’m not saying we SHOULD rest, no, we need it. It’s ok to need rest ladies! Our hormones plummet during this time and we feel the most “off” than any other time in our cycle. Keep your schedule light during this time in your cycle and REST. It’s best not to schedule anything too heavy or important during this time of the month.
Spring represents the follicular phase, days 6-12. Planning planning planning! Our bodies are getting ready for ovulation, they are maturing our eggs which increases our estrogen. During this time we will usually feel a spike in our energy levels (see ya later period!) and will feel confident and ready to go. Your body is planning for ovulation and fertilization which wires your brain to be very future focused and able to learn quickly to help us better plan for whats to come. Connect to your goals and get a grasp on what needs to happen next. Get ready to take action during this time in your cycle!
Summer represents ovulation, days 13-18. Who doesn’t love summer? We’re around all of our friends and family, we’re taking more time for things that bring us pleasure and we are in our most positive state of mind. When we are ovulating our estrogen is peaking but is also met with a bit more testosterone than normal which boosts our confidence and gives us a radiance and energy that is almost irresistible. This is obviously a great time to try for a baby if you’re wanting to get pregnant but also an awesome time to get things done! Be social, meet with clients, go on vacation, etc.
Autumn represents the luteal phase, days 19-28, which I always view as the “wind down” phase. Progesterone is the most prominent hormone in your body during this time and tends to have a very calming effect on the body gently forcing you to slow it down. You may feel less energetic and a bit slower all together during this time. This is the perfect time for detail oriented tasks and generally getting things in order whether thats bookkeeping, organizing, or just taking care of yourself. Autumn can be challenging when you start to feel the onset of PMS. If your PMS is really bad, you may have a hormone imbalance. Try a hormone balancing tea during this time or hormone balancing essential oils like clary calm or ylang ylang.
Ok, how cool is this?? I have started to build my schedule around my cycle and it’s been a game changer!! I had it all backwards before and was getting so frustrated with how some days felt really productive and other days felt so off. I have learned that if I give myself grace and rest when I need to rest and work when my body is ready for it I am so much more productive. I can’t believe this isn’t talked about more. As women, once we understand ourselves and the way we operate, we can approach life in a more relaxed manner, more at ease and in-tune, more balanced and fiercely intentional with our time. I think the world needs more relaxed and intentional women who know how their bodies work and how to use that knowledge to their advantage! At the end of the day it’s no secret that the female body is stinking incredible and this cycle hack just adds to that awesomeness! Right now I am in my ovulation phase and I am getting ALL the things done before I leave for vacation and it feels amazing. I can tell a huge difference in my productivity.
If you’re interested in tracking your cycle you should look into Natural Cycles! It’s a birth control app that comes with a basal body temperature thermometer. You take your temperature under your tongue every morning and it lets you know if you are fertile or not fertile and measures the other phases of your cycle as well! My husband and I have actually used this for over 2 years as our natural form of contraceptive and it’s been amazing. It’s very straight forward, reliable and easy to use. Would highly recommend!
Ok so now that you know more about your cycle go put this knowledge to good use! Adjust your schedule, make plans, go take a nap! Do what you need to do for this time in your unique cycle. Your body will thank you!
