My goal this season has been to stay calm, healthy, and thriving. I know the colder months can cause a slump in our immune system, mental health, and all around wellbeing. I have always suffered from the winter blues to an extent but last year was the worst it’s been in a while. I ended up sick for over a week and I know it was all due to my mental state. I was stressed, lacking in vitamin D, and not properly taking care of myself. This year I was determined to make things different. I feel like this season has become something that I believe it was never meant to be. This season is literally about 2 things. Celebrating the birth of our savior and how fortunate we are to know Him and secondly, being with friends and family and spending quality time relaxing and taking it all in. Instead we tend to panic about family coming in town, stress about buying the perfect gifts, setting the perfect goals for the new year and work extra hard because it’s that time of year… should I go on? I think we live in an era where if we AREN’T losing our minds this time of year something must be wrong with us. But let’s all agree right now, today, that is shouldn’t and doesn’t have to be this way! I know Christmas is over but I have been working on my mental state before the season has started and really spending a lot of time on myself because I know that I am incapable of filling anyone else’s cup up in the new year if my own cup is dry from this season. I have taken my life out of the hands of everyone else and what they think life should look like during the holidays and I’ve taken control over my own mind and health, how busy I want to be right now, and have set up some boundaries for myself. I have been implementing a new routine to keep my mind healthy and my spirit calm and I am so excited to share it with you today! Vitamin D is the number 1 supplement to take during the fall and winter months to keep our immune system functioning properly, our mental state healthy, and to diminish our risk of catching the flu. A little secret about the flu… It exists during the summer just as much as it does during the winter! The only difference? Vitamin D. We are exposed to so much more sun during the warmer months so when the sun isn’t out and we’re bundled up indoors during winter, thats a huge hit to our immune systems and we aren’t able to fight off the things we would normally be able to when we have that vitamin D. So there really is no flu season, just a vitamin D deficiancy season. It feels a lot less achy when we look at it that way doesn’t it? The recommended daily dose of Vitamin D is 5,000 IUs a day. That is similar to what our body is naturally exposed to during the warmer months. If you are getting sick or already fighting something, double that to 10,000 IUs until you feel better!
This essential oil is one of the most incredible immune boosters there is. This blend of herbs was first used by a group of thieves that were trying to steal belongings off bodies of plague victims but didn’t want to catch the disease. Any type of plague is extremely contagious and none of the thieves got sick all because of this oil blend that they had been taking internally and wearing on themselves around the victims. We are able to harness that same power in On Guard essential oil. This is a must have during the colder months. Great to add to tea, apply to the bottoms of your feet or diffuse throughout the house!
Oregano oil is considered to be natures antibiotic and so much more. Oregano successfully helped me avoid 3 sinus infections within the past few years and continues to be my holy grail when it comes to avoiding any yucky infections or illness this time of year. Also super powerful if you do happen to get a cold or flu of any sort.
Elderberry syrup is a super powerful immune booster and can deactivate cold and flu viruses even after you have come down with something. I try my best to take a teaspoon a day of elderberry syrup. The more consistent you are with supplements, the better! If you do end up coming down with a cold or flu, elderberry has been known to shorten the duration and severity.
This is a vitamin regimen by doTERRA and supplies your body with whole food nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and everything you need to support your body cellularly, mentally, and physically. I have been taking these for about a month now and have noticed a decrease in my overall stress and emotional imbalance, better sleep, and can tell that my body is getting everything it needs and not suffering from any deficiencies. Having a really good whole food multivitamin and omega-3 supplement is super important this time of year as we tend to reach for the comfort foods and sweets a little more than the greens and veggies. Keeping a multi vitamin on hand that you take everyday is a great way to ensure that you aren't missing out on anything that your body needs to function at it’s best this time of year.
